We are getting ready to begin our new unit in Science. We will be focusing on our Solar System. Wow, could you imagine what the Native Americans must have thinking as they looked at the wonders in our sky! Please tell me what you know, what you think, what you wonder, and what you wish about the Solar System.
I know that sun is extremely hot. I wish that you could go in space without a space suit. I wonder if it is possible for a cow to jump over the moon. I think it would be cool to go to space.

Great comments, Mia. That would be so awesome to take a field trip to outer space. I wish I was Miss Frizzle and I could make it happen. I loved the nursery rhyme of the cow jumping over the moon! Bravo, Mia!!!!

I know that the sun is super hot but I wonder how far away it is and if it is the hottest thing in the galaxy.I wish that humans could land on the sun and that I could be the first human to go or at least the first woman!

I want to be there when you explore it. Wouldn't it be amazing if we could feel like we were really there...like in our alien story? Would you believe it if I told you that the Sun is about 93,000,000 miles away from the Earth?

I agree, Francesca, it would be amazing to see everything up close. What would you miss most about Earth if you lived in space?

I know that there are many discoveries to be discovered in space. I think that one day space rovers will have successfully visited every planet in the solar system. I wish that I could see Earth from space. Many astronauts say it is beautiful. I wonder what astronauts would say if somebody asked them what space is like.

Excellent comments, Julia. I agree that it must be amazing to be out in space looking back at our Earth. I bet astronauts asked what space is like would all agree on the adjective....extraordinary! What do you think?

Good catch on the punctuation. I think it is still up for debate! Do you think there are other galaxies out there with beings similar to us wondering if other life forms are out there? Seeing that Earth is just the right distance from the Sun to support life...what do you think?

I am wondering if the sun is hotter than lava? I wish I could see a cow jump over the moon. I think the Native Americans learn about colors looking at the sky. I wonder if they thought people lived on the stars.

Excellent thought, Elizabeth. That would make a great simile. The sun was as hot as lava erupting from the volcano! I think we should see if we can find some stories about the stars and see if they did think people might live there!

I am not really sure, Mina. I saw it and liked it. What do you think? Do you ever wonder what it would be like to travel into outer space????

I know there are planets and stars.
I wonder how close the earth would need to be so Pittsburgh could have short, heavy winters and have a longer summers but not be so close we burn up.
